Description

The Ligue Braille has existed since 1920.

Throughout Belgium, the Ligue Braille :

  • Accompany blind and visually impaired people who wish to do so, in order to promote their integration into society at every stage of their lives.
  • Provides policy-makers, social and cultural players and the general public with expertise that promotes the integration of blind and visually impaired people at all levels of social life.
Supports technological, operational and medical research in the field of vision.

Values:

  • Respect: the accompanied person is at the centre of our concerns.
  • Neutrality: we welcome, without discrimination, all blind and visually impaired people.
  • Autonomy: the person cared for must be able to make his or her own choices, in full knowledge of the facts.
  • Expertise: our teams must have the necessary training and skills to provide quality support.
  • Seriousness, honesty, adaptability: in compliance with the law, we conduct a sound and flexible management that ensures the sustainability of the institution in the performance of its missions.
The approach of the Ligue Braille is based on the desire to guide and support the visually impaired person in order for him or her to acquire or maintain optimum autonomy, so that he or she is able to make his or her own choices.

This approach is in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The non-profit association Braille is active throughout Belgium and offers free services related to the many aspects and stages of life:

- Social assistance
- Guidance and teaching of techniques that lead to independence
- Training and vocational integration
- Cultural and leisure activities
